About Dancing With Rushnychok
We are thrilled to welcome back familiar faces as well as new dancers to the Rushnychok family! To help you get acquainted with our vibrant community, here’s some information about us.
Rushnychok Ukrainian Folk Dance Association, or RUFDAI for short, was established in 1967 and has since flourished as a not-for-profit organization guided by a dedicated, parent-run board. Our commitment to excellence in dance is evident by our choice of experienced instructors, who collectively bring over 60 years of teaching experience to our classes.
Classes take place on Wednesdays, a deliberate choice that allows families to bring dancers of all ages together on the same day. We understand the importance of family involvement, which is why we limit class sizes to ensure that each dancer receives personalized attention during instruction.
Our dancers range in age from 3 to 18 years old, and we include formative ballet classes at the beginning of each Ukrainian dance week, catering to junior and senior-level dancers alike. Throughout the year, we host our beloved Malanka and Year-End Recital, where dancers showcase their hard work and talent. Our youngest dancers, in the Zirka class for ages 3-4, are also given the exciting opportunity to perform at both the Malanka and the Year-End Recital.
For our dancers aged 5 and up, we actively participate in Ukrainian dance festivals across Saskatchewan and occasionally Alberta. Additionally, our dancers have the chance to take part in various external performances, including Folkfest, Ukrainian Day in the Park, and Canada’s National Ukrainian Dance Festival, as well as opportunities to perform at nursing homes and other venues, based on interest.
We also offer tour opportunities for all dancers, fostering a sense of adventure and community. To ensure every family is engaged, we ask that each family participate on a committee. Don’t worry—our experienced committee chairs make the process seamless and enjoyable!
Costumes are provided for group dances from our extensive collection, and those interested in optional dances can rent costumes from us as well. In the fall, we organize a club liquor raffle, along with various fundraising opportunities to support our activities.
We can’t wait to embark on another exciting year of dance and community with all of you!
